Surgical Strikes
On August 3, 2019, Indian Army “successfully foiled” a BAT (border action team) operation by the Pakistan Army in the Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir.Earlier, surgical strikes were conducted by the Indian army on 28 September 2016, to wipe out terror launch pads across the Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK), killing 38 terrorists. The objective behind the strikes was to target and wipe out the terrorists who usually gather at large numbers at the border. The decision to attack the terror launch pads came eleven days after the Uri attack where eighteen Indian soldiers were killed.Surgical strikes are exhaustive, detailed and planned military operations, usually aimed at taking out specific enemy targets and installations at lightning speed. The surgical strikes by the Army destroyed seven terror launch pads in a five-hour-long operation where ground forces were deployed in a heliborne operation. Reportedly, the army kept a watch over the launch pads in PoK for one week before carrying out the operation. The terror launch pads were said to be within two-three kilometer from the Line of Control. In another surgical strike, a group of Mirage 2000 Indian Fighter jets destroyed the major terrorist camps across the LoC on February 26, 2019.The strike was carried out after the Pulwama attack of February 14, 2019, which left 40 CRPF jawans dead.LAST UPDATED: Mar 12, 2020, 03:21 PM IST. We routinely differentiate between two kinds of military action: the inevitable carnage and collateral damage of diffuse hostilities, and the precision of a “surgical strike,” methodically. The surgical strike attacks can be carried out via an air strike, or by airdropping special operations team, or through a swift ground operation by sending special troops.
