As we've come to expect from Nintendo, Mario Tennis Aces is a fantastic game for a casual bit of fun, but competitive spirits will also find plenty of hidden depth beyond the basics. Making use of these deeper techniques requires mastering more advanced controls that might be a little confusing at first. In this article we'll give you the lowdown on the controls for Mario Tennis Aces, letting you know exactly what each button does, as well as how to pull off every move like Zone Shots, lobs or slices.
Nail the basics for these and you'll be well on your way to dominating the courts.(Psst! Nascar heat 3 reviews. Want to get ahead of the game and unlock Blooper/Koopa Trooper early?

Mario Tennis is a fun party game, so enjoy yourselves! I have a huge problem with the control scheme forced onto the player in this game. The biggest offender to me is to have two actions mapped to R button being Zone Shot and Zone Speed which pretty much serves two extremly different purposes and can very often troll each other. Want to just slow time to reposition but you happen to have a random star under your feet? Well I hope you like jumping and clunky aiming because you're forced into a zone shot!
Want to do a sick zone shot without wasting your ressources? Oh too bad you pushed the button slightly too early and wasted a quarter of your energy on slowing time for absolutely no reason! It's just awful design especially when L and ZL do exactly the same thing meaning that an entire button is useless and the X button could have very easily been dedicated to zone shots too since lob and drop shots can be done with A and B (and that would have made the game more technical too which is good).Second offender is the incredibly strange idea of force-mapping (let's never let the players any choice because why not) trick shots to double X tap. This may not be a problem for too many players but I end up doing trick shots when I want to do a simple charged lob or drop shots and my two X button presses happen to be a bit too close to each other.
I thought I was weird playing that way and I was maybe just a minority but I remember during the demo seeing many players doing the very same mistake (and it's clear that it's not a bad play, it's an obvious button pressing BS).And then there's the one atrocious idea of forcing gyroscope on players and having to manually turn it off every single time you start a new tournament online. There's a f. settings menu to disable it by default, why does online tournament seems to be for no reason the only game mode that doesn't care about settings menu and still force gyro on every time? Gyro is just way too sensitive and clunky to be reliable to my taste and I hate to realise during the first match that I forgot to manually turn off gyro and that every single of my zone shots and special shots will now use a lot of my time and energy to make sure I don't put them out.I want to like that game as much as I did during the demo. But many issues have not been fixed in my opinion and losing points because the game said so and not because you made a bad input is just baffling for a Nintendo game in 2018. The game boy mario tennis feels more reactive when it comes to control, what's going on camelot?(I also have consistant issues in the Advanced Rally challenge in adventure mode where I use zone speed and go towards the ball and suddenly mario cancels zone speed for no reason and try to hit the ball (even though it's still a way off) which means that I wasted my energy for nothing and I lose the point as well which is extremly aggravating for a challenge based on doing the longest rally possible.
This is maybe just a bug but it's very clearly caused by the awful control scheme being piled up on that poor R button). Unfortunately, a lot of times Nintendo has the attitude that they know what's best for the players despite players being very vocal even for small things like control customization. To their credit, sometimes they're right. Still, there is a particularly disappointing interview from miyamoto about the turd of a game Star Fox Zero that exemplifies their inability to listen really well for me.My issues with the controls are not early as big as yours, but I feel your pain and frustrations. Accidentally double tapping X is my only big issues. I'm not a game developer, but I can't think of any reason we shouldn't be able to customize the controls. 🤷🏻♂️Edit: Still love Aces and Nintendo, but I think it's healthy to be critical sometimes, even of things you really like.
